Kathmandu, 30th July - The Pokhara Metropolitan City-21 school bus accident was discussed in House of Representatives meeting (29th July, 2024)
Member of Parliament Shiv Nepali brought up the recent incident involving a school bus from LP Devkota Memorial English Boarding School during the emergency session. This morning's accident near Mattikhan, Kaski District, claimed the lives of Prince B.K, age six, and Aarti B.K, age thirty-three. Numerous other people sustained injuries and are presently undergoing care at different medical facilities.
MP Nepali mentioned the police finding that driving too fast was the main factor in the collision. He suggested enacting legislation to control and restrict school bus speed. "Bus drivers frequently travel faster than the posted limits. As a result, he said, the government must set and implement the rules required for school bus operation.
In addition, he emphasized the necessity for government action to address and lessen the frequency of traffic and aviation accidents. Accidents on the roads and in the air have increased recently. Sometimes bodies are missing or unrecognizably altered. Reducing accidents is the government's primary priority.
MP Nepali criticized the efficacy of transportation laws at various governmental levels, bringing up BP Koirala's demand for production and entrepreneurship to take precedence. Nepali claimed that although the Gandaki Province government has made an attempt to enact laws and regulations pertaining to transportation, these laws frequently discriminate against transportation operators and do not sufficiently consult stakeholders. "It appears that these laws are introduced without proper discussion with the Transport Federation and local committees, and many of the provisions are against transportation operators," the man said.
Furthermore, Member of Parliament Roshan Karki demanded that the proposed Election Commissioner Krishna Man Pradhan be thoroughly investigated. He emphasized the significance of appropriate review and decision-making with reference to the accusations of violence against women.
The meeting emphasized how urgently regulations are needed to improve school transportation safety and stop accidents from happening in the future.
