The concept of hospitality in Nepal is based on the principle of “Atithi Devo Bhava” which refers to “the guest of God”. People often expect good services while visiting hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. and thus the hospitality laws cover the criteria of these services. Hospitality laws were enacted to ensure that restaurants, hotels, motels, and other public accommodations provide safe environments for their customers. The hospitality laws in Nepal are governed by “Hotel, Lodge, Restaurant, Bar and Tourist Guide Rules, 2038 (1981)”. These rules were enacted under the authority of the Tourism Act, 2035 (1978), and they specify the laws for the operation and classification of hospitality establishments such as hotels, lodges, restaurants, and bars, as well as the behavior of tourist guides.
